Just in time for All Hallowed Eve, last week came in two main flavours. The first was a black liquorice streaked with red. And second, the garish, gritty green of envy. Flavour One was based on Mercury conjunct Jupiter, both square Saturn, through the 22nd and 23rd, with the giants exactly square Wednesday, the 25th. Itis major stuff when major Planets are involved. All considerations, decisions and statements (Mercury) take on extra importance. Though they may have been good (Jupiter) on paper, or supported well enough at the time, they face, or faced, resistance from various kinds of karmic, cultural, or social "debt". Liquorice flavour laced with red tape. And, all of a sudden (yeah, sure), the news was filled with examples. Ottawa wanted to send sailors and flyguys to Afghanistan. Taken back. Iggy wants to recognise Quebec as a nation, though not necessarily sovereign. Itis splitting the party. Duceppe says Quebec will be sovereign by 2015. Bring the troops home now where theyire needed!   more »

“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.” (quote from Philip Dick) When the red light comes on in your car, do you ignore it? Studies show consistently that the cost difference between crisis management and preventive maintenance is about 3.5 or 4 to 1. Pass on your red light and see how much it will cost to get an engine overhauled! Current studies from Tufts University suggest spending $3 trillion per year now on global warming will save spending $13 trillion per year by the end of the century. But, if nothing is done, that cost rises to $23 trillion per year, a conservative estimate since several factors, such as the shutting down of the Gulf Stream or loss of biodiversity, were not included. That’s 6 to 8% of what the global economy is expected to be by 2100. In business, loss of less than 3% can mean the difference between profit and bust.... As for us little folk, what about something personal? How’s the testy love life? How’s your physical well-being, your fitness? Venus, the Vain, always wants a pretty face or façade. Mars rules energy, drive and personal desire. Venus and Mars bracketed the Sun perfectly, symmetrically on either side, on 4 October. Saturday’s New Moon shifts the core of this running episode of self-improvement. Then, the Sun aligns with Mars on Sunday, and swifter moving Venus next week Friday, just before Mercury turns backward and Neptune turns forward. Oh yeah, the “midterm” US election is going to be ferociously hairy, as in weird, wicked and nasty, akin to a second Halloween this year, when both of these square each other again. They’ll be markedly different from the one just Sunday past. Oooh, spooky.   more »

John Rutherford is a good friend of mine. He is an excellent astrologer, and I check in with him every now and then.... like last week. John doesn't read your personality, or predict the future. He simply looks at the chart, checks the relationships between significant planets and constellations, the houses, and major points. Sound complex - you bet it is. But simple too! All he is doing is reading a map. You want to go somewhere? Read a map! But knowing how to read a map is what makes the journey interesting, insightful, and better prepared. ~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~ The current celestial T-square, involving 3 of the 4 giant planets, Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune, is a time that calls many boundaries into question. Jupiter / Saturn sets up legal (Jupiter) boundaries (Saturn), including business deals and contracts. Neptune is the classic “dissolver” of boundaries. We see the biggest problem in Afghanistan and Iraq with porous boundaries. We saw some justice last week with prison sentences for the Enron brass trying to steal $60 billion.   more »
